If your 440 has 2 steering levers (left & right) then it is clutch controlled with variable speed belt driven, exactly the same as a JD24. If your 440 has single lever T bar control it is hydrostatic drive and is same as a JD24A with exception of the engine. thanks to ssdoxie for the tip on the JD24 being the same as my older OMC 440! I found a shop operators manual for a jd24 online, ordered and it has been.
